Five police officers made certain that didn’t happen, clearing a path by pushing stalled cars out of the way and telling others to drive up on the sidewalks so Ponce could get from Roxbury Crossing to BWH.
They made it in time, and Ponce delivered Yaslene, a healthy 8-pound, 11-ounce baby girl on Friday. “They did a great job,” she said of the officers. “I’m really grateful for that.”
That afternoon, four of the officers came to BWH to give Yaslene her first teddy bear. “She’s beautiful,” Officer Tim Coughlin said of Yaslene, showing Ponce the inside of his cap, where he keeps a photo of his own three children. “I remember when I made the mad dash to the hospital three times.”
